Creature of the Week

Each week we will highlight one of the fascinating creatures living in the Sea Pocket Touch Tank Aquarium. Students will participate in hands-on explorations, craft activities, and stories that introduce all the fun features that make the creature unique. Check-in at our Admission Desk at Maritime Gloucester’s Entrance is required due to space limitations.

Plankton Safari

Children 5+ WITH AN ADULT

Join us for an afternoon of investigation in our video microscope lab. The program will include a lesson on marine plankton, and a chance to prepare slides and view microscopic marine life with Maritime Gloucester’s video microscopes. No scientific experience is necessary to enjoy this one of a kind opportunity to learn along with your children!

Guided Site Tours

Join one of our staff members for a 45-minute guided tour of the waterfront site for a full understanding of Gloucester’s past, present and future. Tours are scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 11:00, and Saturdays at 11:30.

Sailing on the Ardelle

All Ages

Sail on the pinky schooner Ardelle, built by captain Harold Burnham. Cruises typically depart from Harbor Loop; subject to availability. Sail along Gloucester's outer harbor and pass by sights like the Dog Bar Breakwater, Norman's Woe and the mansions on Eastern Point.

Tour the Schooner Adventure

Discovery Lab

Discovery Lab is a hands-on exhibit that allows visitors of all ages to explore and engage in marine science concepts through problems solving and play. Exhibits will change regularly to encompass a wide variety of science concepts suitable for multi-ages.

Aquarium Feeding

Feedings are always a crowd-pleaser in our Aquarium! Learn about the adaptations and feeding strategies of Gloucester’s sea creatures as you watch different species feed. The tanks spring to life as camouflaged spider crabs come out of their hiding places, and flounders and skates emerge from under the sand. Feeding times are subject to change depending on the animals' needs.

Creature Camera

What lurks in the water beneath our main pier? Join us as we lower an underwater video camera into Gloucester Harbor and search for marine life! Watch the video screen as kelp sways with the current, fish swim by, and an occasional crab or lobster scurries across the seafloor.
